One of the most important production units on the farm is the germination and seedling nursery. The purpose is the production and growth of healthy seedlings. Which can then be transplanted in the greenhouses.
In a well managed and well operated nursery, germination rates and seedlings have better survival rates than seeds sown directly in the soil.
The nursery is now operating at full capacity. Producing hundreds of thousands of healthy seedlings per month of a wide range of vegetables. The seedlings are used first and foremost for our own on-farm transplanting, thus ensuring consistent supply of high yielding high quality produce. Additional seedlings are produced and sold to other growers and supplied to out-grower farmers and NGOs as part of our CSR programs.
Two weeks old tomato seedlings in the nursery
The nursery covers an area of 1,350 SqM. Equipped with advanced planting media, trays and misting irrigation systems.
For example, the nursery has recently completed the delivery of 500,000 potato seedlings to Pyxus. These seedlings were cultivated from true potato seeds provided by Pyxus and developed in Holland. They will now be transplanted in Pyxus farms and other local farmers fields to produce high quality potato crop and tuber seeds.
